Clean Energy Workforce Training Program

California's economy is increasingly dependent on "green" technology. Future jobs will be found in growing, sustainable industries such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and recycling.

Government and private industry are working together to prepare workers for careers in a clean energy future. Nearly $100 million in federal America Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds and state, local and private funding is available to help teach Californians green job skills. Community colleges and high schools are developing green career paths, and the Clean Energy Workforce Training Program (CEWTP) is striving to make California a leader in the new sustainable economy.

The California Energy Commission is collaborating with the Clean Energy Workforce Training Program, involving state and local partners to develop regional plans for training workers in new green technologies.

Forty-eight grants have been awarded to local workforce investment boards, community colleges, labor and trade organizations and private industry to provide clean energy training programs under these categories:

- Green Building and Clean Energy Retraining Partnerships

- Green Building and Clean Energy Pre-Apprenticeship training Partnerships

- Career Advancement Partnerships

- Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technologies Training Program
